Question

If everyone has the right to be themselves, why aren’t we all allowed to do whatever we want?

Answer

It is very important that people can be themselves and have their own thoughts and feelings. It’s a right that belongs to everyone. However, it does not mean that people can do whatever they want. We also have a responsibility to ensure that we do not hurt ourselves or others. Adults have a duty to make sure that you and other children can live and grow up in a safe environment. We must also think about how our actions affect us and other people.

You are not allowed to behave in ways that could cause you or others harm. Imagine, for example, if you chose to only eat sweets all day long. You would get stomach aches, and your teeth would develop cavities. You also have the right to have fun and to play, but you do not have the right to hurt others or to take their belongings. You have the right to express your views but not to make so much noise in the classroom that other pupils can’t study.
