You have the right to your culture

Every child has the right to their own religion, family, culture and language. You are allowed to follow your family’s customs and traditions, even if they are different from those of your neighbours, friends or school. You also have the right to use your own language.

What does this mean?

If you live in a country where people do not speak your language, you will need to learn the language of that country and follow its laws and customs. However, you can still speak your own language at home and elsewhere. Others must respect your family’s customs, such as the holidays you celebrate. No one is allowed to insult or belittle your culture, religion, customs, language or traditions.
