You must not be bullied or hurt

Adults must ensure that every child is safe and protect children from violence, inappropriate touching and other harmful treatment. No one is allowed to hurt you, no matter if they are members of your family, relatives, friends or acquaintances.

What does this mean?

Physical violence is when someone causes you bodily harm, for example by hitting you, pulling your hair or pushing you.
Emotional abuse is when someone causes you mental harm, for example by calling you names, insulting you or deliberately leaving you out or ignoring you.

You have the right to make decisions about your own body, and no one is allowed to touch you without your permission. The ‘swimsuit rule’ says that any parts of your body that would be covered by a swimsuit are private.

If someone hurts you or touches you in a place or in a way that does not feel right, say ‘no’ clearly and always tell an adult that you trust. Do not keep it to yourself. No one is allowed to ask you to keep such matters secret.

Note:

There is a difference between good and bad touch. Good touch feels pleasant and safe and does not need to be kept secret. Bad touch feels uncomfortable, strange or painful. If you experience bad touch that someone tells you to keep secret, always tell someone you trust.
